Setting good examples is not just for parents, teachers, or role models guiding children. It’s an element of distributed leadership and it’s for all of us. We can all lead through our use of and modeling of pro-social behaviors as we go about our days, business lives, and author-hoods. Here are ideas #31–40 of the 50 positive ideas in this 5-part series for making and sustaining the connections and relationships that can support an ongoing author business (or any enterprise).

If you haven’t seen them already, read parts 1, 2, and 3 for the first 30.

  1. Send clients gifts through the mail, some updated version of the annual calendar from your dentist or auto mechanic. Who might your clients be as an author? Bookstores and other outlets that sell your books (e.g., gift shops, museum stores, specialty boutiques), anyone who has hired you to speak or present, sales reps for distribution companies).
  2. Another gimme: Like people’s social media posts. No need to be insincere, find ones to like and ones from people you like. There’s a world of writers, authors, publishers, booksellers, librarians, agents, booklovers, events promoters, and more out there. Go ahead
