I Don’t Care What Your Bureaucracy Needs

A short and sweet customer service lesson for our author businesses

By the fourth call, I got the message.

It was a message for me and my business. And maybe you and your business. And it had nothing to do with what the calls were supposed to be about.

In the past year, I moved from a nice diversion of 14 years in Wisconsin, to the place I belong: home in Chicago. One thing I miss about Wis…the more or less straightforward health care and the ease of making of appointments.

By my fourth call with various health care people in Chicago recently, I had had enough with hearing about them. I want to talk about me, me, me.

I actually said in a recent call: Can I interrupt you? I really don’t care about how things work in your bureaucracy, I’m just trying to get the answer to my question.

Because in the past slate of calls, every single one involved me having to listen to the intricacies of their bloated processes. Details which had nothing to do with me or the purpose of the call. I know as healthcare customers we serve at the magnificent pleasure of your bureaucracy but you don’t have to rub it in and regale callers with all the mindnumbing dredge of your administrative corridors.
