Without trying too, too hard, I have happened upon a marketing formula that not only sustains my business but has helped it continue to grow steadily over the last few years. The growth isn’t gangbusters, it’s not painful, it’s not beyond my learning curve. It’s just an easy, gradual upward drift and that’s a track that suits me fine some three decades into self-employment and small business ownership.

I call my marketing outreach. Reaching out to others — individuals, groups, the media — is what I do in various ways and through various modalities to be useful to others and draw attention to what I do.

Here’s the rough formula of what I do daily

  • 4–5 Tweets of articles from my archives throughout the day as I have a spare moment, plus miscellaneous replies and likes on Twitter/X as I’m so inspired. (Follow me on Twitter/X and I will follow you back.) — 10 minutes
  • 1 Facebook post of an article from my archives, notice of a podcast I’ve been on, or promotion of one of my business services, plus replies to any posts. (Follow me on Facebook and I will follow you back.) — 5 minutes
