Flat fee events. These are author events where you get paid a set cost to show up and do your thing, whether that’s an appearance and book signing, speaking gig, class, tour, workshop, school assembly, conference session, or something exciting and out-of-the-box you whip up and sell to a paying customer.

Cottage Industry

A big first thing to know about flat fee events — and events in general — is that along with volume sales and unique-to-you grand ideas, they are a pillar of nearly every successful cottage industry I’ve seen authors build around their books over the years.
